What is VoIP?
Voice over IP (also called VoIP, IP telephony and internet telephony) routes voice conversations over the internet or a computer network. You need a high-speed internet connection and an IP phone; you can call both VoIP and traditional phone numbers. VoIP delivers features that are cumbersome or costly on the traditional phone network — more than one call over a single connection, easy added lines, and features like call forwarding, caller ID and automatic redialing that are simple and cost-effective.
What equipment do I need?
A high-speed internet connection — cable modem, DSL or dedicated internet — and an IP phone. The phones are plug-and-play and arrive ready to make and receive calls the instant they're connected.
What's the difference between analog and IP phones?
Analog phones talk over traditional copper wires; IP phones send information over the internet. A call over IP is broken into packets at the origin, reassembled at the destination and delivered as crisp, clear voice — bypassing the traditional phone network and reducing cost.
Do I own my number? Can I keep my toll-free number if I cancel?
Yes. You can take any phone number, including a toll-free number, with you to a new provider.
Will my existing phone service be interrupted during setup?
No. Your phones are the lifeline of your business, so we take every precaution to make porting from your current provider a seamless transition.
Can I switch my current number?
Yes. Porting your number may take 10–14 business days and completes without any service interruption. We can also port in your existing toll-free number.
What is an Auto Attendant?
An auto attendant is a voice-menu system — a digital receptionist — that transfers callers to an extension without a human operator. A dial-by-name directory lets callers search by first or last name; if an extension is unavailable it can direct the caller to voicemail. It's cost-effective, automating and simplifying incoming calls — and with Pegasi AI it answers and qualifies in natural language.
Can I choose a vanity number?
Yes, if available. For a one-time charge we'll search hundreds of number resources for the number you want and assign it if it's available.
Do you have ring groups / virtual departments?
Yes. Ring groups ring multiple extensions simultaneously or sequentially, configurable any time in your account portal.
Can I forward calls to my mobile?
Yes. You can forward calls to your mobile or any other number, and change it anytime by logging into your account portal from anywhere with internet access.
Can I use custom recorded greetings?
Yes. Record any greeting and upload it to your account as a .wav or .mp3 file at any time.
Do you offer conferencing?
Yes. Every extension includes 3-way calling, and a conference bridge for up to 30 callers is available as a premium add-on.
Do you support 911?
Yes. We are fully compliant with all 911 emergency-service regulations (E911).
How much technical skill is required?
Virtually none. The IP phones are plug-and-play and arrive ready to use, right out of the box.
